HTTP 500 Internal Server Error

The HTTP 500 Internal Server Error status code indicates that the server encountered an unexpected condition that prevented it from fulfilling the request.

The HTTP 500 response is a generic error message that indicates a server-side issue. It does not reveal specific details about the nature of the problem, as that information could be exploited by malicious users.

Client Behavior:

  1. Send Request: The client sends an HTTP request to the server.
  2. Receive Response: The client receives an HTTP 500 status code, indicating a server error.

Server Behavior:

  1. Encounter Error: The server encounters an unexpected condition, such as a misconfiguration or an unhandled exception.
  2. Send Response: The server sends a 500 Internal Server Error response.

  • Unhandled Exceptions: When the server encounters an unhandled exception while processing the request.
  • Misconfigurations: In case of misconfigurations in the server that prevent it from fulfilling the request.
